The seminar was organised
by the Foreign Affairs Special Interest Group and was held at the Friends Meeting House, 173
Euston Road on 3 October 2003. The aim was to study the
problems and explore the circumstances of women in post-conflict
situations, focusing upon Rwanda, Iraq and Afghanistan, countries
presently 'in the news' and
where the implementation of United Nations
Security Council Resolution 1325 is highly relevant.
This resolution was unanimously adopted by the Security
Council in October 2000 and calls, among other things, for all UN
Member States to adopt a gender perspective to include the special
needs of women and girls during repatriation and resettlement,
rehabilitation, reintegration and post-conflict reconstruction.
