Annual Conference 2004 |

The annual conference of the NCW for 2004 took place at the
Carousel Hotel in Blackpool on Monday to Wednesday, 11-13 October
|

The
opening assembly
on Monday afternoon
was followed by supper and a talk by Margaret Roffey,
Blackpool's Conference Officer, on
‘Blackpool the Conference Town'. Appropriately,
this was followed by a tour of the famous illuminations along
the 7-mile sea front.
On the first full day of the
conference the Worshipful the Mayor of
Blackpool, Mrs Maxine Callow, held a Civic Reception for the conference
participants and, following this, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor, Mrs Susan Fowler, were
guests at the conference
dinner. The guest speaker after the dinner was Lt Cdr John
Lennon, RN, who spoke about the Battle of Trafalgar and the
naval Trafalgar Day and the commemorations associated with it. [MORE]

On
the Monday afternoon, before the formal opening of the
conference, there was a
seminar
on
‘The European Constitution, Oui ou non?’ at
which the Speakers were Chris
Davies MEP and Gerald Kelly, UKIP. The Chairman was
Marie Birkenhead.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the conference
debated resolutions
on a variety of topics

there were a number of other presentations and
debates. President Hilary Sillars's address covered both the
political and social environment in which women's organisations
now find themselves and the work done by the Management
Committee during the past year. [MORE]
At the closing
of the conference, Amy Gibbs took
office as President for the next two years, together with Vice-Presidents Laura Marshall,
Lesley Prout and Wendy Richardson.
