Seminar:

HIV – Trafficked around the World

Wednesday, 19 May 2004

at the Embassy of Rwanda, London

The relationship between HIV/AIDS and migration/trafficking was studied at a seminar held at the Embassy of Rwanda, at the invitation of HE Rosemary Museminali, Rwanda Ambassador to the Court of St. James.

Mrs Museminali spoke most movingly of the problems encountered by young children who found themselves the heads of families as their parents had died of Aids.

Edwige Fortier, Policy Adviser to the All Party Parliamentary Group on HIV, who deals with migration related difficulties, used her specialised parliamentary knowledge to underline the special risks for women. Dr Charlotte Watts, Senior Lecturer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, gave an impressive presentation on the spread of the pandemic through migration and trafficking.

A lively question and answer session followed and the Ambassador was warmly thanked for her hospitality and that of her staff.
