NCW in New York
The NCW
delegation to the meeting of the UN Commission on the
Status of Women in New York in February consisted of
NCW President
Monica Hall, with Amy Gibbs, Heather Bell, Indira
Patel and Jai Verma.
The British Women’s National
Commission partnered NCW in a Parallel Event
entitled
‘Effects
of War on Women and Children’. This
was a great success,
thanks largely to Indira Patel, who found us some
amazing speakers ‒ a female Judge/MP from Iraq, a girl
from Womankind-Worldwide who had been in Afghanistan,
and other speakers from Britain, Nepal and Fiji.
The room seated 50 people, but 86 managed to cram in, on
the floor and the window sills. Another 82 had to
be turned away at the door.
Baroness Joyce Gould was an excellent, kind, wise and
capable Chairman ‒ she has been confirmed as Chair of
WNC for the next three years.
