The Foreign Affairs special interest group maintains a watching brief on international developments of concern to women and keeps NCW members informed of work to improve conditions for women and children worldwide.
Thus, from time to time, the National Council of Women is asked to arrange for delegations of women from overseas countries to meet members of NCW to discuss the work of the organisation and to exchange views. In the past these delegations, usually quite small, have come from China, Japan, Central and Eastern Europe,
Siberia and different parts of Africa. The latest meetings have been with groups of women from
Palestine and from China in 2006.
The group supports the vital work of the United Nations and UNIFEM and
Juliet Coleman, the President of UNIFEM UK came to speak to the group
'Women’s rights are human rights' was one of the themes of the Beijing World Conference on
Women, and NCW has supported ongoing work in the UN Commission on the Status of Women to implement the Beijing Global Platform for action. It takes a strong interest in the campaign to stop the trafficking in
women.

Other speakers have been Sgt John O'Brien of
the Vice Unit of the Metropolitan Police concerned with trafficking and
its victims, and Mrs Haifa Fahoun Al Kaylani, chairman of the Arab
International Women's Forum, speaking on Women and Peace
and Ms Daryana Kotseva, of the Bulgarian Embassy on 'Women in Bulgaria'.
The group is keen to hear the views of
anybody interested in foreign affairs and welcomes members to join the
group.
