       The Media special interest group

The Media special interest group sets out to investigate the role and influence of the media and information communications technology.

The group is fortunate in having the participation of NCW Affiliates, whose contribution is a key element in its work.

The group has strong links with the BBC, which endeavours  to send a representative to meetings.  The group also  maintains close ties with the Voice of the Listener and Viewer and supports its events.

We welcome speakers to our meetings and receive reports from our group members and affiliates on a wide range of issues, such as advertising, broadcasting, film and video, the Internet, Parliament and the Press. The group also organise visits and seminars.

The group is currently working on :
   • The BBC Charter review
   • Standards in broadcasting
   • TV advertising aimed at children
   • Press standards
   • Classification of films
   • Communications & Licensing Bills

At recent meetings we have had speakers on:
  • The work of MediaWatch-UK
  • The teenage magazine arbitration panel
  • The current work of the NCW affiliated society
The Voice of the Listener and Viewer

• The work of OFCOM
