Andrew Opie, a
food retailer, spoke to NCW members about the British Retail
Consortium.
He covered a wide range of issues of interest to consumers.
For instance he said that whilst manufacturers are cutting down on salt
and fat in many products, there is
a problem with pies and pastry.
He said that it is
difficult to remove fat from meat pies, and there is no industrial
process to produce low-fat pastry that is fit to eat . . .
and reducing the quantity of pastry by making lattice-topped pies
led to the spillage of the contents in transit!
